Did you know that Southsea is home to a thriving independent film circuit which is keen to involve local creatives? Here’s your chance to become involved with a home-grown supernatural feature, “They Wait in the Shadows.”
Portsmouth based indie film company Trash Arts is championing one of cinema’s most loved and influential genres by giving life to a brand new upcoming horror epic.
“They Wait in the Shadows” is a paranormal thriller that dives deep into family secrets and supernatural terror. Directed by Sam Mason Bell and featuring the talents of Ayvianna Snow and Jessica Hunt, this chilling tale follows two sisters returning to their family home after their mother’s death, only to confront monsters they accidentally conjured with a Ouija Board.
Trash Arts Films has produced multiple feature films that have played at indie horror festivals across the globe, gaining recognition and building a dedicated fanbase. “They Wait in the Shadows” will offer audiences innovative monsters, animatronic props, puppets, full body make-up, puppetry and lashings of gore created by Portsmouth arts group Splodge Design.
The production team are currently raising monies on Indiegogo to cover the cost of equipment, locations, and materials needed for a quality film. By contributing to the fund, you can enjoy a range of perks including seeing your business in the film, naming the family in the movie, having your own photo in the family album or even a zoom call with cast members and the director.
Filmmakers are also seeking talented creatives to help crew the film and work on future productions. Trash Arts cast both locally and nationally, recognising the need to connect, create and collaborate with Southsea’s vibrant community.
Director Sam says, “I was born in Portsmouth and feel it is important to support and employ people in the local area. By showcasing their art and talent we can show that the UK film scene has much more to offer than London.”
Filming is set to take place in late Summer 2025 across Portsmouth and Southsea.
