One of the first places I fell in love with when I moved to Southsea was the Southsea Beach Cafe. It has the vibes and a stunning view, even in the winter. I love how on a cold day, you can sit by the wood burner, have one of the cafe’s legendary Bailey’s hot chocolates, and just take in the atmosphere.
The thing that always draws me back to the beach cafe though is the food. And recently, the venue has had a refurbishment which means it has a brand new floor and the section wall has come down to create a welcoming open space.
The new breakfast menu caught my eye and the manager asked me to pop along and enjoy the new menu so I could see what I thought. I loved it!
Deciding on the breakfast menu is harder than ever as there is so much choice but I also love the brunch menu that is available all day.
I chose to go for the breakfast option and have the Eggs Benedict. It is a classic choice and I wanted to see how well the chef prepared it here. I think it is a lighter option than going for a full English breakfast which can be a little heavy sometimes. When it arrived, I liked the garnish and toppings it comes with and I feel this is a really good dish that will be popular along with the French toast which you can have sweet or savoury.
Black Pudding Hash was calling to me loudly so I think I am going to try that next time!
Having a brunch menu means you can rock up at midday and still go for the Chestnut Mushrooms on Toast. The Lunch menu is still there with its mouthwatering options like the Smoked Haddock and Salmon Fish Chowder but it is just great to have all these food options. I think this is why I need to go back and try out more of the menu.
This place works hard to draw in the locals and visitors. I just think it is the perfect location as a stopping point when you are on a long beach walk or just need a venue to take in the atmospheric sea views. No matter what time of year it is, whether that be on a glorious sunny warm day or in the depths of winter, this place always makes you feel welcome.
Now that the sauna has been added around the back, you can go for a sea dip, drop by the sauna and then head to the cafe for food. Perfect options right there! Head on over to the website to look at the new menu and see how good it looks! If you want to eat there, it is always best to book in advance and save the disappointed faces and hungry tummies.
Check out the gallery below where I first took my son to the cafe after a long walk along the beach! This was seven and a half years ago!
