Film Festival Events in Portsmouth
Making Waves Film Festival returns from 20th February until 29th March with a jam-packed programme of events tailored to all who love cinema and the art of storytelling.
Uniquely driven by community input, Portsmouth’s annual film festival has partnered with Motiv8, Portsmouth City of Sanctuary and Gosport Community Cinema to extend the cinema experience beyond the expected and to celebrate and develop innovative filmmaking.
The festival opens with a free screening of Brian Percival’s, The Book Thief at The Lens Studio, Guildhall, kicking off a series of community-curated cinematic events.
Highlights include an unforgettable evening of film, food and culture at St Simon’s Church, Waverly Road, Southsea. In collaboration with the Kitchen of Hope, the event combines a screening of the award-winning Iranian film My Favourite Cake with an authentic Persian feast, live music and gorgeous décor inspired by Iranian gardens.
Staggeringly Good Brewery will play host to a live immersive cinema experience. ‘Pompey Dogs’ invites audience members to take part in a wild night of Tarantino inspired chaos, cunning and colour. Expect a gripping game of betrayal and bloodshed, bursting with cryptic clues, alibis and a whirlwind of accusations. The evening will culminate in an atmospheric screening of Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs in the brewery’s warehouse and an afterparty soundtracked by iconic tracks you’ll already be humming.
On 27th March ‘Wave Makers Talent Day’ offers an inspiring insight into funding and development opportunities as well as an exploration into the future of cinema. Attendees will have the chance to hear from industry insiders, connect with other filmmakers and to mingle with fellow creative professionals. A showing of the Future BAFTA Winners Short Film Competition will showcase the next generation of filmmaking in action.
