A local artist, Winniemay enjoyed the popularity of the Sea Swimmer series for Pose weekend and decided to release a second set of her Sea Swimmer heads just in time for the festive season. She chose to go with a Christmas theme and I have to say they are just delightful. The postcards have an air of the early 20th Century about them and look so timeless.
Each postcard is a one-off of the same design, all finished off with a vintage stamp.
The 25 unique postcards created cost £25 each. They were given a release but have all completely sold out quickly. New orders will be accepted, but there won’t be time to post any out now. Local orders that can be collected are advised until the new year, when Winniemay will create more.
The artist said about the collection, “I was inspired to do the first series of heads after being gifted a bag of vintage stamps during my recent exhibition ‘ Cindy Sherman and Phyllis’s crucifix’ – which worked with themes of familial memory.
“The stamps belonged to her late mother and both the owner of the stamps and other friends are sea swimmers. I have a dip occasionally! The swimmers are a combination and play on the late queen’s head and some of the fabulous swim hats that we see.”
