Manchester band Corella came and played the Golden Touch Festival last year and are back in Southsea. Playing at the Wedgewood Rooms for a headline show on the 12th May, they are set to have the room bouncing. The indie rock quartet are making waves this year with tons of cool festival lineups and their debut album ‘Once upon a Weekend’ which releases on the 3rd of May. Guess what? you can pre-order it now.
This band are so infectious with their upbeat energy and if you haven’t heard Barcelona Girl before, I beg you to listen to it and not want to have a big smile on your face!
As the boys head out on their headline tour which is mostly sold out (you can grab a few tickets left for Portsmouth), I caught up with lead singer Joel, to chat about Corella.
How do you feel about the Northern bands that are influencing music right now?
The Northern swagger is back. There are a lot of bands making noise right now, and it’s an honour to be a part of this movement. There’s something you can’t put your finger on, but northern bands bring the energy on track and live, so I definitely feel that the live shows are on another level.
What is the one thing you like to do when hitting a new city on tour?
Eat the food! We always find it interesting the different sorts of food in different cities. And of course, taste the beer…
Do you all have similar music tastes?
Yes, we all have similar tastes in music. We all love a great live show, so that’s something we focused on early to make sure we nailed it! I particularly like country music at the moment.
How do you feel about your debut album ‘Once Upon a Weekend’ coming out?
Very excited. These tracks are the best we’ve ever done. We’re even more excited to get out and play them live.
Where would you like to tour that you haven’t already?
We’d love to get over to the US and AUS. We think we’d do pretty well over there.
What festivals can people catch you at this year?
Sooo many!
R&L fest, Kendal Calling, Tramlines, Truck fest, TGE, Liverpool Sound City, Hardwick, Boardmasters!
How would you like to see changes made to help grassroot bands at a grassroot level?
We need people to get out there and watch these bands! It’s all about progression – and to get to the next step you need grassroot venues to make that leap. They’re super important to the UK and music industry.
Catch Corella play the Wedgewood Rooms which is set to be a great night for indie music and go order their debut album now!
