As the IOW prepares for festival folk to enjoy this year’s array of talent on stage, Wightlink Ferries have a mini festival of their own to greet travellers and get the party started.
The ferry company’s mini festival, Wightlink Presents… starts this week, which is perfect for those making a week’s holiday out of the event and travelling early. Electro Love DJs will be playing on the Victoria of Wight ferry on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week.
On Thursday the 15th June, the company’s Gunwharf car ferry terminal will play host to five different Portsmouth-based acts throughout the day, working with the city’s promoter Nick Courtney to showcase local talent. Those taking a vehicle to the festival will be able to enjoy the acoustic sounds of Emilie Lierre, Alistair Alexander, Lennon Taylor, Ollie Hutton and Lucky Penny as they wait to board. Locals are welcome to soak up the sun and enjoy a cup of coffee and the free entertainment at the port’s Camber Café, even if they’re not going to the festival.
All Wightlink’s ships and ports will have ‘selfie stations’ celebrating the Festival’s Gods and Goddesses theme. Those arriving on the FastCat catamaran between Portsmouth Harbour and Ryde Pier will also be able to stop for a drink at the pop-up Mermaid Gin bar at Ryde Pier Head before walking along the brand-new pedestrian walkway on the pier.
This year, the IOW festival includes my very own ‘The Reytons’ A Yorkshire band full of grit and guitar riffs. This is their first time playing the island and they are really looking forward to seeing what this iconic, historical festival is all about. If you are travelling over, enjoy and soak up the mini festival on the way 🙂
