Neu Waves is a celebration of new emerging artists, every Thursday night, at The Loft in Portsmouth. A passion project born out of a desire as well as a passion for live music, and a bonding of kindred minds throughout lockdown. This brand new music focus is a forward-thinking, new, alternative live music/club night, celebrating and showcasing emerging artists from across the UK. Neu Waves aims to turn the tide in the local scene, and re-affirm Portsmouth as a touring destination for alternative acts “on the way up”.
Organised by local promoters Calamity Cratediggers & Missing Events, the night will launch on September 9th with headliner ‘Langkamer’ (Bristol) bring their own brand of West Country rock to The Loft with support from local band ‘Making Eyes’, plus more TBA. Each month brings a ‘Neu Wave’ of artists to the night and wave will offer a variety of new and upcoming talent, exploring a variety of genres within the alternative sphere.
The rest of ‘First Wave’ includes headliners PROJECTOR, Deadletter and Opus Kink as well as local favourites Web and Sienas and some exciting new artists such No Deal Disco and Sabres. Each night will also feature local DJs (UNMADE Radio, Calamity Cratediggers, Missing) and aims to bring together the local community and creative scene.
A priority for Neu Waves is to nurture and develop creative talent across the artistic spectrum collaborating with local Universities and Colleges to provide opportunities to students of photography, music engineering, graphic design, and other creative fields to work on ‘live’ projects and build their experience of the industry. Having worked with all three businesses separately over the last 18 months, to see Ella (Missing), Sam (Calamity Cratediggers), Nathan, and Molly (Unmade Radio) collaborate on this venture is very exciting not only for music but for Portsmouth!
