Beating the January Blues can be a challenge, especially when you’re feeling skint after Christmas and in need of some good food to warm you up!
But all is not lost, because we’ve been busy rounding up our top ten January Portsmouth restaurant deals and special offers.
So here they are, in no particular order, to help us all make our money go a little bit further this month…
Sant Yago is looking very stylish after it’s refurb last year. We like the mix of flavours and influences on its tapas menu and the good news is that you can cut your food costs in half this month!
Running Sundays to Wednesdays, all tapas dishes are priced at 2-4-1 with the cheapest dish free. To take advantage of this offer, you just need to make your booking online using this link and add the text “241” to your notes when making the booking. For more info, check their socials.
This bright and colourful venue is sure to help banish the January blues. I visited this no-fuss Mexican eatery for the first time last month, and wish I’d discovered it sooner. The service was very friendly, and the tasty tacos come with a great choice of fresh meat and veggie options.
Bonita’s offers all you can eat tacos (plus bottomless nachos and fries too!) for just £15 per person on Tuesdays. You’ll have your table for 90 minutes, which should be more than enough time to get your money’s worth!
This restaurant is a family favourite for us, thanks to its authentic Portuguese cooking and super-welcoming staff – and they’ve confirmed that their off-peak offers are running again this year.
For example, any day until 6pm, you can share a Portuguese Feast including five tapas and a bottle of wine for £38. On Tuesdays between 12 and 6pm, it’s two for one on meat main courses – including their amazing cataplana de carne. Or if a big juicy steak’s your thing, it’s two for one on Wednesdays between 12 and 5pm.
The Sailor might not be Southsea’s fanciest dining experience, but this pub boasts a prime location and its Sunday lunches have attracted a loyal following over the years.
If you’re a fan of Sunday lunch, you can halve your spend this January by taking advantage of their two for one deal on starters and mains between 12 and 6pm. This includes their popular Sunday roasts – with chicken, pork belly, beef and homemade nut roast on offer!
If you didn’t already know, the Eastney Tavern is a cosy traditional pub near the beach with a menu of highly-rated pub classics, and the team has confirmed its weekday evening deals are back on for 2024.
My top picks are the £10 Meal & Drink deal on Mondays and 2 burgers for £20 on Wednesdays. There are curry and fish & chip deals on other nights too, with full details on their website.
Lee and Richard – aka Los Dos Amigos – have been cooking up a Mexican storm at the Albert Road boozer Back to the Belgrave for a while now, and if you haven’t tried this you’re in for a treat.
This January only, there’s 20% off your food bill when you eat in on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 5 – 10pm. So get down there soon if you’re craving burritos, quesadillas, tacos, Mexican dogs or dirty fries!
Is the Still & West Portsmouth’s best located pub? I reckon it is, and love visiting for a harbourside pint in any season. I’ve also been a few times recently for a meal, and been impressed with both the service and the food which includes pub classics, fish dishes and daily specials.
Update 26 January: sorry, we’ve replaced an earlier incorrect link and aren’t sure whether this deal is still active
You can currently save 20% on your food & drink bill by signing up to the Fuller’s email newsletter on their website which will get you a code to use by 9 February.
This tapas restaurant has a lovely neighbourhood feel, the menu includes all the Spanish classics and I always find the cooking consistent.
It currently has a lunch deal from Monday to Friday between 12 and 4pm where the cheapest tapas is free when you buy five dishes – so that’s a saving of up to 20% on your food. However, I’d recommend going on a Tuesday if you can – as the sangria is half price that day too!
I love the atmosphere at this beachside fish restaurant; the prices not so much. So I’m really looking forward to taking advantage of this new deal starting on 10 January!
‘Mid-week Mussels’ offers all-you-can-eat mussels for just £15 per person on Wednesdays from 12 noon. You can choose between Classic Moules Marinières or Mussels of the Day, and you’ll also get a portion of frites and French bread with your first portion.
It’s hard to beat BB at Gunwharf for an upscale treat. I’ve been here many times for everything from family events to date nights and it rarely disappoints.
You can currently grab a discount code for 50% off mains until 10 February. You’ll need to order two or more courses from the a la carte menu, anytime Monday to Friday and on Saturdays before 5pm. To receive your code, you’ll need to subscribe to their email newsletter. If you’re already signed up, your code should have arrived around 31 December.
And that’s not all…
