I love it when Independents come up with quirky ideas and the latest one from Wines By The Sea is perfect! If you haven’t heard of Wines By The Sea before then read all about them here.
Being a wine connoisseur with a full-time job can be tricky when you just want that certain bottle of dark muscular wine you have recently tasted with Lucy. Getting your favourite tipple in for the weekend from the brilliant wine shop on Albert Road has never been easier. You can now order and have Coconuts on their cargo bike drop by your home with your vino.
Who Are Coconuts
Coconuts is a relatively new business venture from Andy who is offering a free trial to deliver wines once a week to Southsea and surrounding areas in Portsmouth. Speaking to him, he said, “When our colleagues in the council were shutting down and going on leave for Christmas last year, we took a recently inherited cargo bike out for a test ride by delivering some Christmas hampers to local homes for a local charity. Alongside the obvious rewards, we discovered something remarkable: the cargo bike is perfect for Portsmouth!
This bike avoids getting stuck in traffic and doesn’t hold it up but also squeezes into tight parking spaces out of the way of passing cars and pedestrians. It carries more than you think! Because we are cycling with a smile, it is a friendly service and offers zero pollution. It really was an early Christmas present. And that’s where the story really started.”
The Partnership
Speaking to Lucy the owner of Wines By The Sea, she said, “We both live on Western Parade where parking is a nightmare to the point where I don’t actually own a car anymore. We both feel like the cargo bike that Coconuts is currently using is eco friendly. This means less traffic on the roads and less pollution. We are hoping to spread the word to make this a regular thing between 5:30pm – 7pm on a Friday evening for customers looking to do phone orders or instore pick and choose with home delivery for free.
Coconuts is planning to do a crowdfunding campaign to raise enough money to buy their own bike in the upcoming months. Using the indie wine shop as a trial partner is a great way to build rapport in the community and work out logistics while Andy still works his full-time job.
