There is a new yoga class that has a nice early start at the Pool House on Albert Road. Starting at 7am until 8am every Friday, this class offers a great way to start your day!
Chatting to Charlie who has been teaching the ancient practice for the last 14 years, she said, “I love yoga and I feel for me it is about grounding myself. I am naturally anxious, so putting myself on the mat brings me back down to earth and brings inner peace.
“I love how practising yoga helps me connect with my body and really helps my mental health. So if it does all of these things for me then what can it do for my class attendees?”
Charlie says that coming along to a yoga session really centres people and allows energy to move around your body. It is an expression and a way to connect to yourself and others around you. It is such a great tool to help your body stay healthy.
The word “yoga” comes from the root word “yuj,” which means “to yoke” or “to bind.” The word itself has numerous meanings, from an astrological conjunction and the underlying theme being connection.
Away from what the root word means, the actual scientific understanding of the benefits is fascinating! From stress-relieving to improving your flexibility, there is a lot to attending a class of yoga.
- Improves Flexibility – One of the top reasons for people joining a class is to increase flexibility.
- Improves Mental Health – The physical and breathing aspect of yoga helps to improve mental health.
- Stress Relief – Having breathwork and meditation added to the physical parts of yoga makes this a great way to reduce stress in your life.
- Reduces Anxiety – When we think about what our bodies are put through on a daily basis, having yoga as an act of releasing anxiety through its practices allows for reduction in anxiety.
- Better Posture – The focus yoga has on mobility and flexibility can contribute to better alignment.
You can pay for a block of 10 sessions which is £10 per session or just rock up and pay on the day for £12. To find out more, contact Charlie directly on her Instagram @charliegirlbeing
