One of the biggest highlights this year when it comes to local street art has been seeing Pogo’s work across town. His latest piece in Old Portsmouth has had an amazing response from the public. The detail in the work at Capstan House on Tower Street really draws your attention to his skills. Creating the piece for the Look Up Portsmouth Paint Festival back in September, it is one of the most photographed pieces of art to come out of the first ever street art festival here in Portsmouth.

‘Mira’ which is a 9 layered stencil piece, is one of the latest designs that Pogo Stencils has created that moves towards a distinctive Art Nouveau style. The first piece was ‘Marianne’, that stands proudly on the corner of Highland Road. Speaking to the artist about his change in direction of his art, he said “I feel my work has developed into an Art Nouveau direction which started with Marianne. Being French and living in the UK for 12 years I just felt a natural progression to this style of art. “

Speaking of his work, the artist said, “I am a French-born street artist and I am mainly known for my complex multi-layer stencils and attention to detail. My work often pushes the boundaries of the stencil technique, and my dedication to this craft has earned me recognition in the form of numerous stencil art awards.

In addition to my studio work, the POGO brand is also an active pactitipant of the street art community, creative art festivals and events such as Upfest, Beeston Paint Festival, Southsea Paint Jam, and Cheltenham Paint Festival. This collective of events has helped me to gain exposure and recognition among numerous fans of the genre on a global scale.”

To celebrate the success of the ‘Mira’ mural, Pogo has created a brand new print that sits on Moulmade fine art paper with an embossed logo. Selling for the price of £75.00, this new edition to the gallery is a well anticipated print that is being launched this wknd at the Southsea Mini Art Trail. The Corner Collective has all new work from residents for this special event and will be open Saturday and Sunday 11am -4pm. It would be lovely for people to pop in and see all the new work on their way around the art trail which sits on streets close by to the gallery.
