Max and Ivan

Maybe you have seen the flyer around town of the dynamic duo that is Max and Ivan. Their BBC Radio 4 sitcom, The Casebook of Max & Ivan, has attracted guest stars including Matt Lucas, June Whitfield, Jessica Hynes, Reece Shearsmith and Mark Heap. I caught up with Max this week and he has put together a guest blog post all about his show hitting the Wedgewood Rooms next week! It does look rather funny and for a good cause so hope to see you all there!

Need Street

I’m a fries purist. I don’t generally like things on my chips other than salt, vinegar and sometimes a dip ON THE SIDE. I never understood the joy of cheesy chips, even at 3am after a night out in my student days.

Stuff Tailormade

Sam Tuffnell is one of these guys who was just born to be outside, working in overalls, working with his hands and generally getting dirty… you couldn’t imagine him in an office environment if you know what I mean. His furniture-making business S.Tuff Tailormade (see what he did there) allows him to do all these things and more. It’s a business that manifested very organically as a result of a few twists and turns and Sam told me all about it over a Matcha latte in Home Coffee.

Kids To Do

Week one has passed us by in Southsea when all the chocolate has been devoured (have you any eggs left?) Lots of excitement has gone and maybe you are wondering what to do with your kids this week? New Gin Club

Well, having loved Gin for a while and seeing as this alcoholic drink is getting more and more popular, the Southsea Folk team thought why not start a Gin Club. Somewhere we can all chat about new gins we have tried and loved, listen to experts tell us information, doing talks around new gins and go visit some festivals with a possibility of going to a distillery or two!

Home Coffee Shop

Welcome (to) Home. Whether I'm grabbing a quick takeaway or settling down for a few hours to work (and work my way through the menu) I always feel welcome here. Home Coffee is a triumph in Portsmouth's independent coffee shop scene, which has exploded in the last few years.

The Apothecary

Meeting Wendy from Budds Herbal Apothecary was a breath of fresh air, such a lovely person with a good ethos and offering a fantastic service. I have only ever been to one other apothecary and that was The Cabinet of Curiosities in Howarth. I have to say it had a different feel to it, being one of the oldest apothecaries in England it had a historical feel and walking around it felt like you were in a museum with grand mahogany glass cabinets, and great big antique counters, greeting you at every turn . I honestly didn't think I would walk inside one close to my home in Southsea!

March Things To Do

March is a great month as the nights are getting lighter, Spring is on the way and bulbs are coming out. Tulips are lovely flowers to pop up and of course the daffodil which brings on the feeling of Easter. So here are a few of our favourite things to do this March. Whatever you do have fun!

The Urban Sketcher

Setting up Southsea Folk we have had some rather cool followers and one that kept popping up was Joe Hart. Watching his Instagram I could see a few photos that started to have a pattern, buildings! What I found myself doing was waiting to see which urban place he was going to draw next. Loving sketches I felt drawn to his work and decided I had to meet him.

Natural Treatment Room

I heard about The Natural Therapy Room when Ed from The Southsea Abode did my hair. Ed and Louise are friends and he promotes her in his salon. He was singing her praises, and her prices seemed so reasonable, I thought I would give her a try (plus I was mega stressed and desperately in need of some R&R).
