The Southsea Folk Awards 2022 happened 2 weeks ago and it was a pleasure to see so many people turn up to support this event. I can't honestly remember the last time I saw so many creatives and independent businesses all in one space at the same time!
The sun was shining and we held the event at the newly refurbished Moonshine Nightclub on the Strand roundabout. I really felt this place was ideal for an event like the SF Awards! It had a basement cocktail bar for guests to get away from the glorious sun and it also had an outside garden space where you could enjoy the pleasant evening and relax in between hearing all the winners of the evening. The main room was where all the announcements of awards took place and there was such a buzz in the air for the winners!
Sponsoring the event as the main sponsor was Wrapt Interiors and they kindly popped down to support the evening! I also had category sponsors which all came from local independent businesses that wanted to show their support for the local awards.
Steve from Game Over popped down to drop off gaming machines to help the evening take shape and props for photo booths were passed around and everyone seemed to love the blow up TV screen!
Without the support from the local independent community these awards would never happen so I am truly grateful for all the love given this year!
A massive shout out to Solent Sky Services who sponsored 2 categories and covered the whole media for the evening for free!
Thanks to Ming from The Makers Guild who spent precious time working on the trophies and producing a cool end product to hand out to winners.
Having a co-host was important to me and so I loved being able to promote The Young Creatives who offer creative opportunities for young creative actors! Portia was perfect to co-host this event and did a sterling job!
Ella from Missing Promotions helped with the sound for the evening, helping to create a cool playlist from the moment that guests arrived. The first half of the awards was 80's TV theme tunes and the second half was 80's songs by various artists.
Jo from Rad Creative did an amazing job working on all the graphics for social media all the way back to February when we launched this year's awards. I love Rad Creative for all things graphic design and she just gets the message I want to put across just right!
The Southsea Folk Awards always feels right with Val and her fantastic Ice cream van so I was thrilled when she said she was coming down at half time to offer a selection of Mr Whippies for everyone.
Without all this help I couldn't have made the awards the success it was so I am grateful for all the help I received. A huge thanks to all my sponsors for believing in me and allowing me to shout about the local independents and creatives we are lucky to have on this island!
